tires?????
i know tis has been on here a thousand times but here it goes again......other than the 275/75/17's i have now stock what are the biggest tires i can get without rubbing????? plus i am thinking the bfg's but what are your guys thoughts on what tire to get and what size???? i think i want a mudder but not to extreme like the swampers.....but a little bit more quiet than the swampers....any suggestions????? do i have to stay with the three seperate numbers or can i go 32x10's or what......i have the 2000 4x4 off-road package!!!!
Most tires nowdays are measured via the diameter/aspectratio/rimsize. It can be converted to ##x## though. 305s would probably be the largest you can go with the off-road package.
Remember though, the larger the tire...the more mileage and power you lose. 285s would be all the higher I'd go with the stock 4.10 gearing in the off-road edition. That's just me though.

so 285's is killing my power with stock 3.55 gears

But anytime you go up in tire size you do lose power/mileage. I run 285s on my V10. They were on the truck when I bought it, so I can't say what the power change was like. I could probably run 305s with my truck and not notice a lot of loss [8D] but it's more noticeable with a V8 as it has less power available to turn the wheels in the first place. [>:]
I'm just saying he would notice some power/mileage loss, and that's why I'd suggest the 285s. In my opinion they fill the wheel wells enough. To answer the question he asked though, 305s would be the largest and even then he might see minimal rubbing on the control arm.

Why would there be a power/mileage loss? Wouldn't a gear change compensate for the larger tires? Or is it just the increased weight?

Yes, a gear change would help compensate for the larger tires. You'd still lose a little, but nothing noticeable. He didn't mention anything about changing gears though. Just putting on larger tires.

i actually wish i had a auto tranny instead of a manual.. makes driving a lot easier when you dont have to clutch/shift everytime you stop and i really dont see any advantages of having a manual other then dodge automatic trannys are junk ( so i hear )
i wish i had your manual....lol....so iwouldnt have to woory about my tranny.but i think i will stick with the 275's or 285's even with the 410 gears....now i dont know which brand??????
not bridgestone... stay away from them... the 245's i put on (to replace stock crappers after i did a few too many gravel runs) ended up throwing me into a speed sign doing 15mph on a semi wet road. i ended up having to get a new bumper because of them.
of course different style tire will result in different situations. nothing is perfect. i love the wild country TXR's you can get at leschwab, people like the BFG mud terrains too. they seem like the popular ones around here.
i don't drive when it rains anymore.
