Want a deeper sound out of my 5.2
Hi,
New to the forum - great site - lots of info however when I searched for mufflers there was much talk about duals and little on singles. I have a 99 with a 5.2 all stock. It sounds ok at idle and when I slowly start off the line however I would like a more deeper - richer sound throughout all the ranges. I also like (and want to keep) the single exhaust and have it exit behind the rear wheel (where it is now). I was going to simply order a Flowmaster 40 or 70 muffler and install it myself but then thought I should replace the piping as well.... has anyone had any experiance with a "single" exhuast system and what worked for them. I am not into dumping a lot of money in this right now so looking for the most bang for the buck (ie ~<$200).... any suggestions?.....
Thanks in advance!

i owned a 97 with a 5.2. called up jc whitney and got there american thunder for 200.00. direct bolt on. three inch from cat back. easy install and did not have to raise truck. simply put exhaust together on ground first than my buddy and i lifted it into place. this system use the factory hangers. was nice sounding.
Thanks a lot all for the advice. I will focus on MagnaFlow, Flowmaster and Whitney. One other quesiton - would anyone know what the "typically" the "stock" pipe size is for a 99 5.2 is. I keep hearing its a good idea to run 3.0 inches from the cat back and when I attempt to measure my pipe it looks a lot like 3.0" but could also be ~2.5".... any help thought comments are always welcome!
