any suggestions for an exhaust that is not obnoxious bust still has a good rumble and sound for a 2000 5.9L

Agreed, a flowmaster 40 series sounds great, but if you want a milder tone, I'd go with the 50 series. It all really depends on your budget to how well your exhaust performs and sounds. If you're looking for a real high end exhaust check this out, it's what I have on my truck and the sound and performance couldn't be better
