Default Squeaking Noise

When going at low speeds, forwards or backwards, I hear a squeaking noise coming from the rear end of my Ram. It makes the noise more and more often until I get up to 20/25 MPH and can no longer hear it.

Any idea what this could be, if I should be alarmed by it, and how to get it to stop?

Possibly a dry u-joint...not really specific enough, lots of things can make squeaky noises...to check the u-joints, block the wheels, have the truck in neutral, and get under there...grab the driveshaft and the yoke at the u-joint and "twist" back and forth, looking for movement, there should be none...also, look at the u-joint's small grease boots...if they're squeaky, usually you can see a rust-powder around the joint.

A friend and I checked out the u-joint yesterday, just to see if we could see anything, but we didn't twist it. I'll try that later (just got out of the shower, don't feel like getting under my truck right now), and I'll post afterwards.

I know this post is old, but its a good start to a fairly common issue. I had a squeek coming from under my truck, and isolated it to the rear u-joint as well. I couldnt tell however by lifting the rear and twisting the u-joint, I actually had to start it, put it in drive, and have someone sit in the truck to let it turn, then hit the brakes (and the sound was very evident).

I pulled the u-joint, and sure enough, 2 of the caps were disintigrated, nothing but rusty powder where needle bearings used to be. A quick fix, and no more squeek.
