Default How to tell different Rear Ends?

I think that the 2001 dodge ram 1500 I just bought has a different rear axle in it, it is supposed to have a corporate rearend but the one it has, has the number 60 written on it in yellow paint, is there anyway to tell which one it could be just by looking at it?

Thanks

The Corporate axle and the Dana 60 have covers that are very different. You can see them in the chart here: http://www.offroaders.com/info/tech-.../axlefacts.htm

But from the pic of your truck, it looks like you're still using 5 lug rims on the back. The Dana is an 8 lug axle. I doubt anyone stuck the money into converting one to 5 lug...or the trouble of swapping one in out of an older non-Dodge.

Could be an old Dana 44...or a Dana 60 from Mexico (some there were 5 lug)...but those are doubtful as well. [>:]

Dont know if this will help at all but my Chrysler axle has a rubber plug to check the oil level. Not sure about other axles, but that could be another thing that might help you find out which one you have.

Thanks for the help, I'm gonna check out the cover tomorrow but from what you've said I'm willing to bet it's just the regular, but I'm still not sure about the yellow 60 written all over it, Thanks again

take pictures of the pumpkin.

I agree with Rom. Unless the truck came from mexico I dougt someone took the time to convert a d60 to 5 lug shafts
