Ihave a 96 4x4 and the a/c blows hot air. Does any one know what this might be and how hard it will be to fix it?

After 10 years, there's a good chance the system is just very low on freon. It may just need a recharge. That would be the simple fix. Without more information, there's not much more I can say. It would all be guessing.

If it blew cold for a day and then quit, you've probably got a huge leak. Possibly a failed seal. You need to do a dye test. You recharge the system along with some purple dye. When it leaks down ... the leak is evident. Big purple stain. If the system won't take more freon ... NOW you've got bigger problems.

you wouldnt have to take the dash apart to replace the condenser. The evaporator is behind the dash, the condenser is located infront of the radiator.
