Default ?????????V-10 To Diesel swap ????????

Okay, heres my dilema, I blew the motor outta my truck under warrenty, the question is if they will warrenty a $6900 motor or try to weasel there way outta it. So during the 14+ hours in a tow truck I had alot of time to think. Now I have the bright idea of swapping out my V10 for a oil burner.

I loved my V10 when it was running, but up here in my neck of hte woods, parts for these trucks are few and far between, even with the people and places I know.

Sooo, since every 3 vehicle taht passes you is a Diesel, Im pondering swapping a Diesel in place of the V10. I know I know, you all will think im crazy, where the hell will I get a diesel swap? Simple.... www.canadiantracker.com/members/edsal-12.shtml

Now the last rebuilt motor I had put in cost $8500. If I can get a truck for half that, Im ahead of the game. There is everything and anything involved in the swap. I would perfer to find a 94-97 with a 12 valve.

Now my question, is what all will be needed to do such a crazy swap? Here is a brief list of the items that I think are needed:

Motor
Tranny
Tcase (for ease of install)
drive shafts
wiring harness under hood
computer
fuel tank
sending unit
fuel lines
instrument cluster
radiatior
brake booster setup
All accessories off motor

If I do end up doing this, what I will do is bring both trucks in at the same time, pull both cabs off, and go from there.

Any coments, questions, insults?

Revised list....

Motor & accessories
wiring harness under hood
computer
fuel tank (depending on what motor you go with)
sending unit
fuel lines
instrument cluster
radiatior
brake booster setup (not sure why you'd need it..but you can swap it)

The V10 and the CTD share the same bellhousing pattern. They both used 47RH/RE transmissions and 241D transfer cases. I don't see a need to swap the rest of the drivetrain.

I don't see why they wouldn't warranty your motor though. That's what warranties are for...when things go wrong [&:]

Well will a 12 valve outta a 92 truck work? I found a rolled 92 truck complete for a decent price.

A 92? No...not with your 47RE. The RE relies on the PCM for operation, and a 92 would've had an RH in it....which only has a lockup solenoid and an od solenoid. Everything else is hydraulic. You'd need the electronics out of a 96 12 valve.

So the best canidate for this swap is a 94-97 with auto.

I have a line on a wrecked 96 with a 5spd that should go fairly cheap.

My only problem would be are the driveshafts going to be the same?

Is the dodge the same as most other vehicles and have the capablility of swapping the 5 spd in, for example is the floor cut out in the trany tunnel to allow for the shifter, and is there a cut out for the clutch pedal and master slave cylinder?

I havent heard back about my motor for my V-10 weather it is or isnt warrenty. I was told it was starved for oil and took out the oil pump as well as the front cover and all teh bearings, etc, etc, etc. Therefor I will get my eggs in a row and get plan B ready.

Thanks Burning Rom for your vast intelect

Actually the 97 would be the BEST candidate, as the newer the CTD...the more power it makes. A 96-97 would be prefferable, as everything would work electronics wise with your auto transmission if you stayed with it.

I don't think the driveshafts will be the same if you swap the 5spd in, as I believe the transmission length is different on the manual transmission trucks. It should be the same though if you stick with the auto.

Can't answer your question on the cut-outs...I've never had the carpet pulled up in this truck. The outline for the shifter is probably there, but you'd still have to cut it out...same goes for the clutch pedal and slave cylinder.

If you do put the V10 back in, make sure you track down an oil pressure booster spring/relief valve

The word is my motor is in the back of the truck to the manufacturer's place for inspection.

Its hard to have that much money tied up in a vehicle and not use it. Its been over a month now. Im glad I have my new truck to run around in, but it isnt the same
