Yeah I try to as often as I can but I don't live in an area with very many offroading spots. And I assume that it's bad to run 4x4 on pavement. Is it ok to test it on a gravel road or something?

Gravel roads are fine. If you have a grassy area you can drive on, that would work too. You don't have to put it in 4wd and wheel it every month. Just let the system engage and drive 50ft or so. Then put it in 4lo and go another 50 (or back up first and do the same 50 again). Then take it out.

You can put it in and run 4WD on pavement as long as you are driving slow and don't make any turns. After changing my gears I would run in 4WD for the short trip down my street to the main road for a week or so, to break the front gears in. Just don't turn!!!
