Default RE: PLENUM GASKET AND GEARS

If it were me, and I were running a 295/75/16's, i'd get 4.27 or 4.56 gears instead of 4.11's, unless you think you are ever going to go down in tire size, then stick with 4.10 in that case. But with 295/75's (which are about 34" diameter) 4.10's would probably be slightly better in the mpg department, but the difference would be miniscule, so getting the 4.56 would be far better for performance.

I agree with Silver... when I put my truck back to stock before selling it it had the 295's with 4.11's and it could have used 4.56's. it was ok with all of the mods.

I would say 285's or smaller, 4.11's, anything bigger go with the 4.56's.

ok I have some updates on mileage:

Plenum added about 1-2 mpg in town but uses a lot less oil.

Gears 3.55 to 4.56 and no gas mileage specs but coming to work this morning I COULD USE CRUISE CONTROL with out it kicking down on every little hill.

Thanks
Brad

ok I am getting 18 on highway and 16 in town. I am very happy with the upgrade.

I have a problem now with something whistling...the shop that did the gears said everything was set up right...I had them recheck it. Has anyone had this problem before?

Thanks
Brad

did you get the speedo re-caled? your odometer will be off if the speedo has not been recaled by either a programmer or the dealer.

one thing you can do to find the difference is to follow someone you know with a calibrated (read stock car/truck) and measure the # of miles they have on their odometer vs the # of miles on yours. you'll need that number for mpg calculations and to know how fast & far your really traveling...

No I did not have it recalibrated but I did go by a construction site with a sign that tells you your speed limit and did different speeds. at 65 I am actually doing 68. So I am not exact but I figured pretty close.

Do you have an idea about the whistling?

yeah, get on a long flat road, stereo off, windows up so there is no wind noise. drive it 35~40 mph and while on the throttle, listen for the noise, then let off. if the noise goes away, or comes back (I forget which way it goes), your gears may need to be adjusted. did you break them in already? should have been... drive 20~30 min then let them cool all the way down, then every 30 minutes of driving, let it cool for 20 minutes. this is what the gear installers had me do on mine. supposed to break in the gears really well.

if the noise stays and it's not in the rear then check your TB hat seal and the TB base gasket.
