Default TPS

Seeing how we get alot of posts on here about TPS I thought I would let you know how my changeout went.............

I was experiencing a longer 1st shift and also minimal surging @highway speed, I changed out the TPS and now its like it was when I bought it, huge difference. Hard to tell how long its been like that but when I mash it to the floor it didnt redline like it did before.

TPS- 49.00
Time- 4 minute
Results- Priceless

What spurred you to change that part? Just the surging/shifting?

Seems odd your TPS would be out of calibration and not trip a code in the PCM.

Tell me more, I have a customer that is complaining of intermitent surges, but we cant find a problem.... thought this might be relevant.

Well I first noticed that sometimes when I hit the gas to pass someone it would redline (high RPM's) but actually not go anywhere, then having my cruise control set sometimes it would surge 300-400 RPM which got me thinking that If my tranny was slipping I wouldnt be maintaining my speed, I would actually be losing speed and then the truck would speed itself up to compensate, but after checking everything out I contacted Dan Fastman and told him what I had going on, he sent me a list of things to check, TV cable, fluid, bands, and finally the TPS.......wouldnt you know it......that was it.

No code was ever thrown from my TPS, which is not uncommon as it did not completely fail, it was still allowing shifts and was downshifting but wasnt telling the computer the right location of my throttle, thats why it would run the RPMs up. At least thats the way it was explained to me.

I remember the good old days when everything was controlled by rods and springs, not little chips in sensors....lol

Hope this helps

how did you calibrate the sensor??
I did i on my ford once.... Just rotate it under tension until you get a certain voltage reading right??
