Factory 9.25" Trac-Lok LSD- Problematic??
I just bought a nice '94 Ram 1500 4WD and would like to install a LSD in the rear axle. I read a couple of posts which stated that there are side
retaining clips in the factory limited-slip differential which are known to break.
I'm wondering how common this is and if these clips break during normal
everyday driving or as a result of 'hardcore' use?
So, if you've got a factory limited-slip 9.25" differential, please post your
experience with it (good or bad). Thanks.

Welcome to DF!!
The C-clips that are problematic exist no matter what differential you install. The 9.25 is a C-clip axle. [:'(]
As long as you keep your fluids changed, and add the limited slip additive (if you don't use a synthetic fluid with it in already) you shouldn't have any problems using it for day to day driving. For hardcore wheeling, you'd want to go with a different axle anyway. [8D]

they dont call them trash loks for nothing.
If you are going to go with a limited slip, get an Auburn posi or a detroit LSD with planetary gears. They wont cost you much more and you will have a better LSD.
But as Burning rom stated the C-clips are what holds the axle shafts in. you will have them there with any of the differentials you get

It's the clutch pack retaining clips I've read about causing
problems, not the axle C-clips:

Thanks for reminding me dude. Just kidding, I put my truck through new contruction so it kind of takes a beating. Funny though, after the rebuild they told me to take it easy on it for a 1000 miles, today it got it's workout, a hill climb just to get to the job site. spinning all the way up. I guess I broke it in.
If I had a little more knowledge about it I probably would have had them install a better unit, but time was important so it got rebuild the same as new. I guess I can hope for another 90,000 out of it.
