Couple more 1996 MOPAR PCM questions
I'm considering a Mopar PCM for my '96 Ram. 5.9, auto, 4x2. Price is/was $250, shipped. Part # is correct.
The unit was listed on another forum when it was still new, and not having sold it, the owner said he used it for ~1000 miles. Does this unit need to be calibrated or anything by a dealer? Will it have mileage, VIN, or other stored data from the previous owners truck?
I have a beautiful '96 with <15K miles, and I don't want to do anything to make the actual mileage to appear questionable if I ever want to sell. A dealership scanned my truck, and verified the mileage as 14,xxx. I also don't want to have any codes, or flashing lights that can't be easily taken care of. I'll wait till I find a new one if that's going to be a problem.
The owner says there is no info stored, and the pcm can be swapped back and forth with the stock unit at will, with no problems. Does that sound correct? I do realize there will be a brief "learning" phase after switching.
I was not going to question the price for a new unit, it seemed quite fair to me. Is it still worth it, having been used?
Thank you, Burning Rom for answering my other questions about the pcm.

The PCM can be swapped back and forth with the stock unit, as you were told. There is no info stored in the pre-98 PCMs. I'm not even sure there is info stored in the 98+ PCMs concerning mileage, but there certainly is none in the older trucks that don't have the digital odometer.
