Glad to hear y'all are alright.

You don't anticipate having any lock-up problems with disks? Were you in 4H or did the dump circuit not drop enough? Tires? I really could not be prouder of how these TA's grip when wet.

That really is funny ... I came here looking for a rear disk conversion and got talked into modding the drums. Now I'm happy with their performance (although I really do hate working on drum brakes) [:'(] and YOU'RE getting the disks. You need to think about that adjustable proportioning valve ($75) before you throw a bunch of money around. The problem as I see it isn't stopping power now ... it's grip. I'd hate to see you do the conversion and then have the exact same problem ... locking the rears.

I am SO jealous ... [&o]

The next time I have to replace these shoes (much sooner now, thank you) I am going to tape a $20 bill to the fender in front of my face to remind me of all the cash I'm saving ... dammit!

I found some place that makes ceramic shoes. They claim that "Standard OEM shoes have a coefficient of friction around .25. Our shoes have a .42 rating." Hell ... at this rate, I may have to pinch the rear brake line down with some Vise-Grips. [8D]

lol... i by no means am doing this conversion to save money...

im mearly doing this to save my pateince... you ever have one of them things that just gets on your nerves so bad you can throw a wrench through a window? just so damn mad that vein pops on your forhead? well brum brakes and cop killers do that to me... the design of them just sends me into an awe of "wtf were these guys thinking" its such a friggen easy idea,,, but they make it so complicated....

i mean dont gimme wrong... this isnt my first rodeo with drums... i just cant stand doing tem anymore...and anyway... the 1ton cylinder mod was just a test to see if it would help any BEFORE i changed to rear disks... so i had that conversion on my list to do... it just came up quicker then i was planing on... gonna save a few uneeded hemriods...lol

and i dont want this post to deter anyone from trying the mod...it may work really well for others..just didnt do it for me...and i also have an alergic reaction to drum brakes... its called getting all sorts of pissed off

Yes the 3/4 HD and the one ton master cylinder will fit a 1/2 ton. in 98 dodge put the larger 3/4 and 1 ton master on the 1/2 tons to the larger master cylinder has a 1 1/4 inch bore and will give u a higher stiffer pedal.

Nice thread. I always was very cautious when pulling my trailer because of the animic braking. Now I know how to fix it for realitivly cheap

When you're towing after doing this mod, make sure that you pile on plenty of tounge weight (within limits, of course). It is SO easy to lock the rears at stock empty bed weight ... and once the RWAL kicks in, you'repretty muchon the front rotors alone. With a heavy tail, the 1-ton cylinders will be most effective.

ORIGINAL: Ramdamit98

When I did one of my cars in the past, I put a block of wood on the floor behind the brake pedal to prevent it from traveling to far and damaging the seal.

i did the sammmmeee thing

ok guys i'm trying this wheel cylinder mod on my 1998 1500 4x4 right now. just waiting for a hand to bleed the brakes. everything went in ok. pulled one spring off, slipped the old cylinder out and the new one in. quite possibly the easiest thing i've ever done. now let's just see if it works. i'll keep y'all posted

OH YEAH! THEY WORK!!! the rear brakes are definately more .... "grabby" now. which is nice if you know how to use finess when driving.... i perfer finess. pretty much same as what everyone else has been saying if you hop on em hard the rwal or abs will kick in for a bit, but personally i think even under rwal/abs braking it does a better job. before the abs would slowme down. now it seems like the abs might actualy work to stop me!! that's one small step for me, but a huge leap for abs! which i have never been a fan of, simply for that fact. it doesn't stop your ***, it just slows you down enough to get into trouble. anyhow so far i'm very happy with the 30 minute mod. i just can't wait to try this with a trailer full of bikes. i have a trackday comming up later this month, so i'll keep everyone posted! hey Rom, thanks again for the awesome idea!!!!!!
