PCM = Powertrain Control Module = Your truck's brain
Takes about 2 seconds to locate (open hood, point to firewall with your left index finger) it's the silver box about the size of a TV Guide with three large connectors on it. Takes about 2 minutes to change out (including disconnecting the battery).
Actually ... considering that it's part of the Emission Control System, it might still be covered under warantee (how old and how many miles?)
Otherwise ... they can't cost THAT much. Junkyards are FULL of them. You'll have to get the dealer to burn the VIN and the mileage of your truck into the new one for it to be legal.

What's your estimate for a used/junked one? RockAuto has them for $66 ($75 core).
THAT'S Cheap!

As far as the hypertech, it doesn't matter. All you'd have to do is plug your hypertech in and re-program the replacement pcm
