Default Deep Trans Pan Ordered

Just ordered a deep trans pan today. It should be here in a couple of days, just in time to be installed after my trans flush this weekend. The pan is made by PML, and holds an extra 2 qts over stock. It's cast aluminum, has a magnetic drain plug, raised cooling fins, and is machined for a 1/8 ntp trans temperature sending unit. I wanted one in black powder coat, but this one is cheaper, and probably dissipates heat better without the powder coating anyway. Pic of the pan is below, but I will also post pics of it installed on my truck in a few days.

I picked up the pan at www.airram.com. It was $10 cheaper then what PML charges on www.yourcovers.com and was shipped for free.

I do all my own work, but when it comes to transmissions, there is a mechanic I trust that works at a Jeep dealership. I take it to him for my trans flushes and band adjustments.

Default RE: Deep Trans Pan update - Arrived

My deep trans pan arrived today. Overall, it looks pretty good I think. Kinda wish it had internal fins (baffles) like the B&M pan, but otherwise, I am very pleased with it. It gets installed tomorrow morning. Here are some pics for you for now, more to come tomorrow.

Comparison of stock pan depth (pic taken by GOD RAM IT) versus this PML pan depth.

Outside of pan. I have already installed my trans temp sending unit in the port provided by PML (1/8" NTP). Also visible is the magnetic drain plug.

Here it is installed. No issues with install except we had to ditch the bolts that came with it because they were not long enough. I will update you all after I have driven enough to tell if there is any change in my trans temps.

are you gonna run a trans temp gauge to the cab? if so what brand are you going with?

Default RE: Deep Trans Pan update - Installed

I already have a trans temp gauge in the cab (autometer), with the sending unit plugged into the diagnostics port on the side of the trans. I am going to wire up this second sending unit to the same gauge, with a SPDT switch in the cab that will allow me to toggle my gauge back and forth between the two sending unit. This way I will get two trans temp readings, one for the fluid before it gets used (in the pan), and the other from the sending unit in the diag port. My hope is to find out once and for all if the diag port is as accurate/inaccurate as some people say. I have been happy with my sending unit in the diag port so far, but by monitoring both sending units at the same time, I should have an overall better picture of what my trans temps are doing. I may move the diag port sending unit to the pressure line between the trans and the cooler someday, but for now it will stay in the diag port.

So, in the driving I have done so far, temps seem to be about 10 degrees cooler then it was before. I am running about 160-170 degrees on average. Also, it used to jump up to about 190-210 if I was pulling, or if I had a load on real hot days. Today, it went up to about 180 for a short while, but it seemed to take a lot longer to get there. Overall I am very happy with the results. I will let you all know when I install that second sending unit, and will tell you how my temp readings compare between the sending unit in the diag port, and the sending unit in the pan.
