Default Speed Sensor

I haven't seen any post that have the same problems that I have. I have a check engine light that comes up with a speed sensor. I know I have two speed sensors but I have no Idea which one it is. The ABS light is not on and the speedo works fine. The only problem that I have noticed is that when I first start up and start going, it revs up before it shifts into second. It only does it the first time it has to shift into second until I turn my truck off and start it back up. It is a 98 Ram 4x4 with about 120k miles. Thanks Jason

I assume you checked the codes when the check engine light came on, if so, what is the code number that you got? From your description, I would guess it is the speed sensor in the transmission, since you don't have the ABS light and it seems to be affecting the shift sequence.

Reposting the solution that fixed the same problem I had a couple of weeks ago:

Problem solved.

Researched part on Advanced Auto to get good part number (they got pictures). Plugged number into www.wholesalemopar.com and ordered part. Came in today (Priority Mail).

CEL with error code P0720 needs part #4800879 (Transmission Speed Sensor - covers many applications). Cost me $15.69 (+6.85 shipping). The one that cost $31.25 is the wrong one ... the OTHER Speed Sensor.

It's a 5 minute job. Very little leakage from the tranny (I parked it ~10 degrees nose down anyway). Takes a 1" deep well socket.

Cleared the code ... ran it ... didn't come back.
