Transmission Problem on a 2001 Ram 1500
I/we are having a problem with my son's truck's transmission and unfortunately he is away at school, so I am going into this blind. He stated that this morning when he started up his truck and backed out of his parking space, once he put the truck into drive, even though the gear shift would move into the D position the transmission was stuck in reverse, since when he would give it gas it would go backwards. So in short, the gear shift will move, but the truck is locked in reverse, although he said he was able to push the truck forward, since they couldn't get it started again, and that confused me since wouldn't the wheels lock up if he was in reverse and the truck was off? Anyway, before I have it towed, does anybody have any ideas of what could be wrong?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
Sounds like the transmission linkage may be disconnected at the trans or shifter.......If you can get someone to look at the linkage at the trans while you're moving the shifter then you can establish if the cable and linkage is moving......
exactly what i was gonna say. but sometimes its been known if its stuck try going in reverse and stoppin fast, it can pop back out.but sounds like a linkage prob. mostly.
