Block or add-a-leaf (updated question)
and rogmatt, the plus inch aal's are designed to, after everything is said and done, give 2" of lift. meaning that when the truck is at normal operation (off the jack stands, nothing in the bed, fully ready to drive), you will yield 2" of lift.
as for the ubolts...thats up to you. if they are rusty or in any way look inferior to new ones, i would spend the $8 and buy new ones. also, if after you add the leaf, you cannot get the nut on the end to fully seat (use up all the threads in the nut), get longer ubolts. every thread that is left hanging off that nut will be cutting a percentage off the overall strength of the setup. also make sure you tighten the f^%k out of them, and dont be afraid to throw some locktite on em also. your whole axle is positioned by those two ubolts, so if anything goes wrong with them you will have some extreme problems very quick.

Do not reuse u-bolts. That is also dangerous. They become stretched and weakened when you tighten them. Removing them and using them again only stretches and weakens them more.
As for the stacked blocks being ok, it is NOT ok. Why do you think many 4x4 clubs prohibit drivers from even going on club functions if they have stacked blocks. Because it is not safe. Call some local Jeep clubs and ask them if it is ok with them if you have stacked blocks.

I hear you on the U-bolts, even though the local shop did not think irt was necessary,
I cannot find anywhere on the internet where I can order U-bolts for a Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 2001.
Current length of U-bolts is just under 12" , would like to get 14".
Can't find online. I think Tuff Country has them, but does not say what length or where to buy them.

When I did my AAL, i was in the same boat as you, couldn't find any aftermarket u-bolts that were the extra length I needed. I grudgingly put my old u-bolts back on for a little while till I could figure out what to do. My u-bolt nuts were right at the very end of the bolts - not good. You should have at least 1/4" of thread showing. I called around to some shops that specialize in suspensions, and finally found one that custom makes u-bolts for any application using high quality steel blah blah blah. I took my truck down to them, and they made up the u-bolts while I waited, and installed them. They guarantee them to be better then the stock u-bolts. They are very heavy duty and fit perfectly. Try that, maybe you can find a shop that can make you up some u-bolts. It was not very expensive either.
There is a pro Shop in Pensacola called Automotive Alternative that specializes in Suspensions and will be installing the AALs & new U-bolts. Will post pic of the new height when all done.
