head gasket leaking
have a head gasket leaking no steam or boiling over yet..
has anyone tried the sealers on the market that seals leaks around the head?
such as these here

http://www.steelseal.com/eng/home.html

would like a simple fix that will last a few years, replacement cost can run up to $1200 for this.

You can get a Fel Pro top end gasket kit for around $100, best way to go[replace the head bolts also]. You haven't really said how you know its a blown head gasket, but the products you have listed will not fix a leak if it is not leaking at a coolant passage, also the stock head gaskets are of an extruded metal with some type of fiber/gasket filler,if that is saturated with coolant I'm not sure how effective those products will be before the gasket blows out at another spot. I personally would not trust that type of fix for my ride.
you'd be way better off just replacing the whole gasket. If not you risk such problems as overheating and warping your cylinders and that anti freeze will eat away your brearings and so many more problems. If you don't do it right now your going to get stuck with a bill about 5x what you'd pay to replace the headgasket. Its not a matter of if, but when.
I had a customer a couple of years ago that asked me about Steel Seal for his Altima 2.4l...exhaust gasses in coolant, so it was a bad one...of course I didn't recommend it, but the $50 and a few prayers was better than the $1000 bill in his opinion...he claimed it worked, and hasn't had a problem since. It has been over a year probably since I last saw him, so who knows really. It's not recommended by me, even tho Steel Seal doesn't contain solid "stop leak". I still think it's a miracle that it worked for this guy (if it really did).
I say it is the head gasket because, i took the rad cap off with the engine cold and reved up the engine to about 2000 or so rpm's then coolant started to spurt out of the radiator, higher the rpm's more reaction from coolant.
It seems to be a minor leak I would say between a couple of cylinders reason for this thought is. this has been going on for some time now mostly heats up when the egine is under stress IE; long steep grades, or pulling a trailer on steep and long hills.
I do not show the most common symptoms of a head gasket like oil and coolant mixed together, one thing that comes to mind is that I have been adding coolant to the overfill bottle over this time period. I have always wonder why or where it was going.
I have also replaced everything that would and can casue a engine to heat up.
so what is the going price for something like this?
