Default Gauge cluster on my 97

I have a 97 Ram club cab, base model. No power windows, lock or anything. Apparently this model also did not come with the stock in cluster tach. I would really like ot go the the salvage yard and find a Ram with the Tach in the cluster rather than placing a large tach somewhere in the cab. My question is whether or not a straight swap will work or if my PCM will not recognize it and basically reject it. I do have a mechanical odometer, that is my biggest concern really, will a new cluster get reset from the PCM, or will it stay whatever mileage the other truck had? This is more a question for you super technical guys out there I guess.
