Default Tranny Cooler

Ive got a quick question. This might sound kind of dumb, but I bought my truck used last year, and I was wondering. How do I know if my Tranny Cooler is stock or aftermarket?

thanks

Um ... placement, I suppose. If it's between the A/C condensor and the radiator, it's probably stock. I can think of at least one better place to put it. Why the curiosity?

Just curious. As soon as I hear back about this job Im going to start spending $$ on my rig again, and if im going to lift it and put some bigger rubber on it, I was thinking I better go ahead and beef up the tranny as well with a shift kit and aftermarket cooler.

I see things a bit clearer now. All automatics have the cooler (?? heater more like it) in the radiator. Look to see if there are additional lines coming off of it heading between the radiator and the A/C condensor. Kinda peer down between them. If you have the HD tranny cooler (part of the tow package ... I think) you'll see a little cooler down there - about the size of a magazine. Think you need more than that? Most folks get by with just the tank cooler.

So ... do you have one? The HD cooler, I mean ...

the easiest way to see if u have the stock trans cooler is to get in and turn the igniton on and look for the "trans temp" idiot light to go through its "bulb check", look near the bottom of climate controls (on pre98) for the trans temp light to blink on for a few seconds. if u see it come on u have the hd service package
