i have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.2 L engine and i have extremely bad low end power. it has 54,000 miles and i just changed the plugs, wires, cap and that stuff did not help at all. i took it to the race track and it ran a 18.36 it would barly do a burnout in the waterbox this is how bad it is does anyone know what to do to hely or fix the power prob

 

Well, I've got an 01 QC Off Road w/ 5.2 & auto and yours sounds just like mine and a lot of other people on here. These 5.2's just don't have a lot of low end punch. This is evident when you put the hammer down from a dead stop and hold it. It feels like it's dead at first but then at about 2500 or 3 grand, it really starts to pull. As far as burnouts, I've got 33's and a posi trac with Flows and an intake and mine won't even come CLOSE to chirping the tires on dry pavement, maybe a little when it's wet. But if you wanna make your truck really scoot, then there's some guys on here who know how to do it, but it ain't cheap. I'd start with an intake, Fastman TB, and exhaust. That'd really wake it up.

 

mine has some power i can chirp 2nd all the time but i got 4.10s in it mabe its your gear and mines stick to mine can spin them all the time

 

it is definately the gears,. anything less than 3.92 for sure cannot do burnouts, Mine wont, and i have the 3.92, however top end power, I can literally fly past traffic on the highways., doing 130 pulling a trailer is pretty impressive, even for a 5.2 outhauling 2500s+.

now here's a question for you, why do burnouts, it wastes rubber, brakes, and there is always the possibility of really Fng your Rear end right up costing much more to replace.

Ive got an 01' with the 5.2 and the only performance mods I have as of yet are the Hypertech PPIII and an Exhaust.. I can burn my tires from a dead stop just by putting my foot on the gas, and Ive got 3.55's with 285/75's.
My truck had the death flash on it, when I installed the hypertech program on it, it was a night and day difference in power.. woke that little 318 right up!

 

whats with this deathflash? i programmed my truck successfully with a superchip programmer, so Im just wondering about it.


i know my cats aren't clogged, as I dont have any.
and my gears are 3.92's
so according to your stock setup and programming, I should be roasting my tires anytime I punch the pedal.

 

deathflash was the quick fix from chrysler for the plenum gasket problem (i believe). made the motors run like dogs.. someone else on here could probably tell you better than I did what it was..
