Default CRACKED PLASTIC DASH

I GUESS ! I'M ONE OF DODGE ( brothers) VICTIMS. JUST SEVERAL DAY'S AGO I NOTICED 3 BIG CRACKS ON MY PLASTIC DASH ABOUT 5 INCHES LONG AND GETTING BIGGER , I OWN A 2000 4X4 QUAD FULLY LOADED, IT'S BEEN A VERY GOOD TRUCK UNTIL NOW , I TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT ALWAYS USED ONE OF THOSE WINDSHIELD COVER FOR THE DASH, I GUESS IT'S VERY CHEAP PLASTIC FROM MEXICO, DODGE USES I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD MAKE GOOD FOR ALL OF US, BECAUSE IF IT WASN'T FOR US DODGE WOULD'NT BE NUMBER ONE IN SALES AFTER ALL IT'S TAX DEDUCTUBLE FOR THEM SO KEEP CUSTOMERS HAPPY SO IN THE FUTURE WE CAN BEEP BUYING MORE DODGES, I BEEN A DODGE CUSTOMER AND COLLECTOR SINCE 1997 , I PRESENTLY OWN A 1930 BUSS COUPE AND STILL RUNS LIKE NEW OF COURSE EVERY LITTLE PIECE WAS MADE OF STEEL, NOW THAT THEY HAVE GONE TO ALMOST ALL PLASTIC BECAUSE IT'S CHEAPER TO MAKE THAN IT SHOULD BE CHEAPER FOR THEM TO REPLACE , SO PLEASE RECALL YOUR DASHES SO WE CAN ALL BE HAPPY AND DON'T GO BUYING ANY OTHER VEHICLES LIKE CHEVY OR FORD, I LOVE MY TRUCK AND DON'T PLAN TO GET RID OF IT! SO DODGE DO WHAT YOU THINK IS RIGHT , YOU TOOK OUR CASH FOR A PLASTIC TRUCK YOU SOLD US NOW RECALL , RECALL AND GIVE A BETTER PLASTIC DASH ATLEAST PAY 50% OF THE COST OR SEND US THE DASH AND LET US WORRY ABOUT ISTALLATION , BUT DON'T LEAVE US OUT IN THE COLD

Wow...turn the caps lock off next time

As far as the dashes, there's already a huge thread about them. Dodge will never recall them, so there's not much sense in hoping that they will

As mentioned this is a ongoing dilema for us 2nd generation dodge owners.I too had the same problem with my 01 ram sport reg cab.I take very good care of it and 1 day it cracked all the way from the center of the instrument cluster to one of the vents.I didnt want a repaired dashboard so i went and bought a brand new 1 from chrysler and was 364.00 for a brand new 1 in the box.But i got lucky due to the fact my a/c went out n they had to pull the entire dash out so i had them replace it.If you were to replace it try www.makeitmopar.com and i am sure you can get 1 for less then i got it for.But after your don e do yourself a favor and buy 1 of them there dash pad covers in like the carpet style, i did and i heard from others it wont hurt your dash n it doesnt attract any heat to make it expand.See i learned (and i am sure others know this) when heat hits the dash it expands and when it cools it contracts and after so many times it will expand 1 to many times and crack. So i feel your pain on this and wish you the best in your decision.
thanks
pat

Some information on cracked dash recovery (no pun intended) and prevention from a source on Z cars: http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/dash.html#uncracking

The prefered method seems to be ... Vaseline??

I don't know ... this old girl's had over 8 years of blazing Texas sun with no special treatment. Hell, I don't even wipe the dust off. No cracks here (knock wood). Not sure if I should start now or just continue doing what I've been doing ... nothing.
