Default Exhaust recomendations

I've got a 98 turbo diesel Ram with a little over 100K on it. About 3 or 4 months ago the tailpipe rotted out of the muffler so I replaced it. ( I thought they were stainless )

Anyway...

Today while driving into work I stop at a stop sign and I hear the THUD. I knew exactly what it was and sure enough, the muffler had rusted to the point where it now puked the new tailpipe out.

Thats IT !!

I'm looking for some recomendations as far as a replacement exhaust goes. I'm not into off roading or any of tha stuff, I just drive the thing. I was thinking that maybe I should replace the entire exhaust from the manifold back including the cat converter. ( Why not ? ) I poked around on the net a bit ( how I found THIS place ) and a few of the exhaust systems that I found looked like they eliminated the cat converter entirely. Am I seeing this wrong or is this indeed the case?

Any recomendations?

Should I just go stock again, or is something out ther better? Anything gonna get me better gas mileage ect?

Any help at all would be appreciated !!

Diesels see huge gains with a high flow exhaust like a Banks or Bully dog. You should look for something around the 4inch range with a high flow muffler. this is definatly help your hp, tq, and mpg.

I checked out the Banks site and it looks like they also eliminate the cat converter, Am I missing something or am I wrong? Are these new exhaust systems eliminating the converter?

as far as i know, these are just cat back systems that keep the cat on in its original location. i would check the cummins threads for better answers see what some of those guys got when they ordered them. we are all "Gas" guys in here for the most part.

Oh ... I didn't know there WAS a section just for Cummins trucks. I found the second gen and thought I belonged here. Thanks for the heads up.
