Hi All, Hey Got A Friend with a 1998 Ram 1/2 Ton with a New engine ,360 Cu. In. Hes replced the Throttle Positioning Sensor,=No Change. Also who ever owned the Truck before Actually cut the Cataletc Convertor off, And The Ran Exhaust Pipies Off the Manifold Straight out And They ran to Two Cherry Bombs, And Then They Tapped And Threaded a Place in Front of Each Cherry Bomb And put A Oxygen Sensor In Fromt of Both Cherry Bombs, I know This Is Crazy But this is What They Did.And Unbelievely The Check Enginge Light Has Not come on. Ok I Think thays All ,Its Enough ! YYour Opinions Please?? Oh Thats Not All Theres A Plate between the Throttle Body and Intake Made by Performance That is Suppose to Swirl The Fuel And Break it into a Finer Mist ,To burn Better And Who Knows ?? HELP !!

 

well first off... that plate is called a throttle body spacer and does absoultley nothing for these motors... expect **** off the air trying to get into the intake.. take that damn thing off and use if for a nice desk paper weight on them windy days in the office..

that 02 sensor setup doesnt make any sense to me but i bet it would help to install a oem style/highflow cat and run the correct 02's ..

how is his plugs? do they come up fowled? have him check them out.. i know with an improper working 02 sensor system,, even though the CEL isnt on.. a incorrect reading on the 02's will allow the computer to dump extra fuel and allow the plugs to be fowwled... have him either clean/regap the plugs or replace them..and if it helps along with the removal of that god forsaken throttle body spacer.. then the 02 setup is the culprit. either run a correct exhaust system or run 02 simms found on ebay.. but im not sure if that will help.... the originall owner could have also modified the CEL not to come on either...its been known to be done... and the truck an still be popping a code... i think 98;s were able to retrieve to code from the odo.

try this... turn the key from off to on (not start.. one click before actuall cranking) off to on off to on and leave it on ON.. and then watch the digitial odometer... you should see a series of codes starting with a P ..write these down and post them on here/ or look them up in a haynes or chiltons or on a internet OBDII fault code list. if this doesnt work and you ahve a analog odometer.. then take the truck to an autozone or advnaced auto and have the codes read for FREE and write down what the code reader comes up with... again this may not work... im only betting on the fact that the original owner may have tamperd with the CEL and your state doesnt require a computer scan for inspections,, if your state even does vehicle inspections..

Hey Thanks For the Help ,And Advice. I'll Call him And tell him All the options, How About Him Not having The The Cat. Convertor On There ? Thats Surely The first Mistake ,Dont You Think. ! The Spacer He has Already Considered That, So i'm Sure He will now That i Tell Him What You Told Me. yea the converter would be a problem.. especially w/o 02 simms and trying to run a non converted exhaust with a sensors and a PCM thats looking for a pcm.. can screw up a bunch of things..
