3/4 or one ton axles into a 96 dodge 1500
Alright I need to know if any of you have come accross this or know someone who has and how much trouble they had to go through to get it done right?? and did they use the same year as the truck or??? I'm wondering because I'm thinking about going to a heaveir axle and I wanted to know which one was easier to do. Diesel gas axles are the same or are those differant to??? I'm new to this whole dodge thing so the more info the better....

going to dana 60's out of another 2500 ram would be a basic direct swap. if you do 1 tons i think its more involved. the steering and stuff is different.

The Diesels used the same axles as my V10 (Dana 60 up front...70 in the rear).
Just find a set of Dana 60s from any 3/4 ton Ram and you'll be good. The 60 axle isn't as strong as the 70, but it has a MUCH better aftermarket!

It'll fit, but like I said...you'd rather have a Dana 60 than a Dana 70...and diesels/V10s only came with Dana 70s in the rear.
It should bolt right in. You'd probably need larger U bolts though.

I'm with these guys. D60's front and rear out of a 2500 would be super easy to swap in.
Why you want to swap them? Running bigger tires and wheeling it? If you are D60's are a good chioce

dont turn down a D70 if you get a good deal on it. we installed one on my friends truck not too long ago, not that big of a deal to make work. the D70 also has big disc brakes on it (not sure if they all did or not) and is beefier than a 60.
there's only a few mounts that need to be changed. if you have a grinder and a welder you will have no problems.

60's and 70's have a better aftermarket option then the 9 1/4's and 44's .. ie lockers joints balljoints etc etc etc..
when you find a doner truck or axles... try to get the same ration front and rear,,, that way you arnt out of your 4X4 for too long till you change the diffs (if you chose to)
remember when you change axles to bigger ones like what your talking about... your hub changes too..and your bolt pattern... new wheels/tires will be in order (if you didnt already know that...) my dads buddy swaped axles on his jeep and then had to wait till he had cash to get different wheels with the right patterns
