Default Rear End Trouble

I've got a 2000 2500 2wd with the Dana 70 3.54 rear end in it and it's starting to go out. I'm having a hard time finding a used one for a decent price let alone being able to find one at all. Is there any other option I may have as far as another year rear end fitting or maybe even getting one to fit from a totally different vehicle? I talked to one guy and he told me that he had one for a 99 and could get it to me for really cheap but told me that the 99 rear end is different than the 2000.

The '00 rear-end might have had disc brakes, where-as the '99 wouldn't have. That's the only thing that would be different.

But honestly, why are you looking for a rear-end at all? Why not just rebuild the one you've got? Dana 70s are rare axles, and are sought after heavily by off-roaders. Plus, if you do a lot of towing, now would be a good time to upgrade to 4.10 gears as well.

I've never understood the whole "my rear axle is going out, time to find a used axle" theory anyway. You're paying an amount of money for a used unit with x amount of miles on it...that you DON'T know how it was used/abused...and that will end up failing just like your original axle. Better to rebuild it with better components the first time and save time and money down the road...especially since the stock 70s are known for eating gears [&:] Just my opinion though.

i agree with rom... but i could understand swapping the whole axle when you get it for really cheep...like a 9.25.. dime a dozen and pretty much havnt changed from 94 to 01...but 70's are hard to find axles.. and with rom said.. its my motto... when it breaks... rebuild it stronger then stock...

I have a 95' Ram CTD that had a Dana 70 rear end. I believe it's a 32 spline? It's a standard carrier with side gears and spiders. I can send a pic if you want. It has 45,000 miles on it. It looks new. I couldn't even guess on shipping.

Good luck.

http://www.imageshack.us its so simple to use, and it makes sharing your images (less than 1mb i think)

Well on a Cummins how much will a 4.10 effect the fuel mileage over the 3.54?
