Default Fuel Injector Numbering

Have you ever done something and wondered what was I thinking?
I removed my 5.9 from a 2001 Ram 1500 for painting and detailing. I was cleaning the wire engine harness and noticed that 3 of the 8 fuel injector leads had number tags on them. Duh. How can I tell which lead plugs into which cylinder injector? Are the leads color codes to each cylinder? Thank for your advice.

the injector plugs will only go 1 way... it might be hard to get them backwards. if your wanting to know about the wiring color codes, download the manual and have a look. the manual can be found in one of the threads at the top of this forum (tacked).

Thanks Steve. I realize that the plugs only fit on the injector one way and that there is a mechanical lock of red plastic. I guess I should of been more clear in my question. Does it matter which lead goes on which injector? If so, how can I tell if the factory lead number decal (tag) is missing from the lead? Thanks.

yeah it does matter however what i'm saying is when you lay the harness down the length of each injector plug will only allow it to go on one injector. even if you took the harness out entirely, it would be hard to get it wrong when it comes to the injectors.

That was my first choice as you discribed. I figure if I was wrong it would not run well. I look at the wires of each injector plug last night. They are all the same. One brown & one green with an orange stripe.

when you lay the harness back down onto the motor you'll see where they go...

btw, you yanked your motor for detailing?

I had the truck painted FJ6 Sassy Grass Gree like my 70 Cuda was. I wanted to detail under the hood and try(try) and make the color change look factory. I'll send you some pics if your interested. I don't know how to post on here yet. My address is bradallore@sympatico.ca
Thanks Eh!
