i have 305/70/16 tires and they only rub at full lock, it had these tires on it when i bought it and as far as i can tell there are not any mods to make them fit.

the tire has more mass than the rim does so the larger tire and it being an aftermarket that is spaced farther from the center of the rim creates more rotating mass aka more inertia, and thus takes more energy to turn the wheel the same amount. that's why a larger tire takes more energy from the engine to turn, besides the fact that it is more tire, it is further away and needs more torque to turn.

wider tires also need more torque as they provide more static and rolling friction as the contact patch is larger.

i may not have a ton of mods, but physics, dynamics, statics, moments, you name it.. i know the science and engineering behind it. even thermodynamics.. if you know what that is awesome... and you also know my pain.

So if I'm following you right, a 265 on a 17" rim would be easier to turn than a 265 on a 16" rim.

Is that right?

depends on the height of the tire... if they were both say 265/75/(R16 or R17) then yes it would be. assuming you're using an aluminum rim. it also depends on what type of tire you're using. i know for me going to my winter tires, i cannot break them loose on anything. they are a really soft compound. where as my crappy all terrains i can break loose on dry pavement...

that will make probably the most noticable difference, the type of tire i mean. you really wouldn't notice much difference if any between the 16 and 17. i wasn't meaning it was a BIG difference, just a difference.

Well, I went from a stock rim from my 98 to a stock rim from I think it's a 2004. The truck ran like a dream with the old I think they were 245 70's on it but once I put the 17" rims on with the 265's that i think are 70's it seems like i really have to push it to get it to go. Before I'd cruise at about 75-80 mph whereas now it kinda feels like I have to really push it to hit 70. I'll try to get the pics here but if I can't check out the pics in my profile for before and after.

The 265/70 17's are close to 1 inch wider and almost 2 inches taller than the 245/70 16's. The 17's are going to make your engine work a little harder to do the same job. If you haven't had your speedo adjusted than when it says your doing 70 mph your probably doing more like 75.

I went from the 265 BFG All-terrains to the 285's and they did rub after that if I turned to hard. Then when it came time for new tires they told me they couldn't put the 285's back on because of BFG. So I'm back down to the 265'sjavascript:void(AddText('[:@]'))
javascript:void(AddText('[:@]'))
