4x4 vs off road
what is the difference between the standard 4x4 and the off road package??? i have a 2001 2500 and am trying to figure out if it is off road package or not, im trying to put a suspension lift on it
Off Road had some stiffer shocks and I think some skidplates, pretty sure the axle gears were 3.91 and 17" rims. Had some "Off Road" decals on the box, I guess to combat GM Z71 package. There's probably a few more options, bigger air cleaner or alternator perhaps, but I couldn't list them. I haven't seen any Off Road 2500.
Come with 17" tires and a 2" lift. If you were Off Road you'd have decals on the tailgate, unless somebody took them off.
You could always get a build sheet, that would tell you for sure. Search build sheet on here and you should find the link

Offroad packages came with 4.10's and a LSD in the rear... dana 44 up front and 9.25 in the rear...17" rims... 275/70/R16 goodyears block + AAL for the rear and taller stiffer springs for the front... skid plates and -go faster- decals to boot and im almost postive only 1500's had them...but dont quote me
thanks to all... that will help i have only seen the off road on the 1500 but then again i dont realy see to many 2500 or 3500 around here... i did know about the 4.10 gearing and that is what is in there from the factory (guess it was a option for that year) i have to admitt im a recovering chevy addict and i realy like the way my rig looks and drives... it pulls my 31 foot boat like there is nothing back there....
