Default Recomended Fluid for pumpkin

I own a 2001 1500 magnum and the seal on the front driver side axel is leaking. I plan to fix this myself, but I was wondering if any others had problems with this job that might help me through. Also what is the best lube for the axels ?? Thanks GB2.

I also had that axle seal go out. Dealer replaced it under 7/100k powertrain warranty for $100. Check into that at your dealer if you are under 7/70k. I bought mine new in Nov 2001 - they were giving away 7/100 p-train warranties to get the trucks off the lot after 9-11. The warranty stays with the truck - so check that out 1st. Dealer can run the vin # on their computer and find out if it is covered.

As for gear lube - I use Mobil Synthetic 75W/90 in both ends, but you have to put "friction modifier for limited slip differentials" in the rear one.

replace the drivers side front axle seal for $110???
if they actually do it for that price, they just lost money on that job. to get to that seal, you need to pull both hubs off, all the axle shafts out, carrier comes out...pain in the ***.

alot of hours to fix. i'd be very surprised if they did it for $110

ya thats a really good price for a inner seal.. Tani had a really hard time getting his carrier out..and on a D44 your not saposed to "need" a case spreader.. although i bet it could come in handy... its relativley an easy job if you have the tools and time and patience.. both my seals are bad... its just one of them things where.. "ill get around to it" lol i know..bad attitude... also..i just put new fluid in... the D44 isnt considered "live" so you really dont ahve to monkey with lash settings and tooth mating patterns...
