OK, lets talk rims- backspace and tires.....
I have a 3 inch lift on my 2000 Ram 1500 right now with the stock 16x7 rims and 265 tires.
I got the go ahead from the wife to get me rims for my Bday and tires for Xmas....YIPPEE!!!
First does anyone know the Back Spacing on the stock 16x7 Aluminunum rims?
I found a good deal on some 16x8 AR 23 (with 4.5 inch BS) Alum wheels and also some 16X10 Eagle (with 4.5 inch BS) rims.
I plan on running 285s if I get the 8 inch rims and probibily 305s if I get the 10 inch rims.
I would like to know how far the rims will stick out of the wells if I went with the 16x10s?
I don't want the rims too stick out too much from the wells If I can help it.

stock rims are 16X8 on a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. they have 4.5 inches of backspacing.
by what you're looking at anything bigger than a 265 is pretty much guaranteed to rub somewhere. wait.. that's on a stock truck. you should be able to at least clear 33's.
if you went with the 16x10's it will stick out about two inches. personally not a whole big deal to me, can always get some flares to cover them if need be

Dodge Rams had both 16x7 and 16x8 rims stock, depending on what model and year the truck is.
My 2000 1500 SLT Quad Cab has 16x7 aluminum ones on it right now stock (even truck door decal states it).
I just dont know the backspacing of the 7 inch rims.

4.5" backspacing for both. that's a pretty much dodge standard for the second gen ram.
by looking at your picture i think those rims are 16x8's... look exactly like mine from a 2000 set i picked up and their 8's but they are your rims and you would know.
i'd still get a tape measure out and do some measuring. i don't always trust written stuff. too much human involvement that could make them wrong.

Not to argue, but I am pretty sure they are 7 inch rims, the dealer told me, Dodge tech forums states it and everthing I find on the net tells me they are 7 inch wide.
The width from outside to outside of the rim may be 8 inches but these wheels are classified as 7 inch wheels when you measure inside to inside.
Mine are stock #2104B casue they are the machined rims, the polished ones are 2104A, not sure if your are machine coated or polished.
This is what I have found so far:

Dont really feel like messing with fender flares so I am thinking of going with the 16x8s and 285 Buckshots.
I can put 315s on em later if I put another lift on it down the road too...........

To my knowledge Dodge never installed a 16x8 rim on a 1500 ram, 2500's are 16x8. If someone has a pic of a 16x8 5 on 5.5, I want to see it so I know what to look for
FYI.....3rd gen steel chromies for 1500's are 17x9.
My 16x7 chromies have a 5 inch backspacing...I know 'cuz I measured them. Most aftermarket 8 inch rims run 4.5 or less (cuz I'm looking too) backspacing.
Too little backspacing may cause interference when turning even with a 33 inch tire. With your lift and a 4.5 inch bs rim, you could squeeze a 315/75 in there. most 315 tires run about 34.5 inches. A 305/70 or 33 x12 should work and you can run a tad less backspace if you want your rims sticking out. When your backspace is less then half your rim width, thats when issues can occur.

315s would be cool
but from everyone I talked with and saw on the net they all got some sort of rub with just 3 inches of lift.
I got an Army bud here on base that has a 2000 1500 with the offroad package and has BFG 295s on 16x8s and gets rubs when he makes sharp turns.
I am ordering these buckshot mudders thru the net so there is no way to try em first..........

It'll be tight no doubt...I wouldn't recommend it either, with a Fabtech lift, because Fabtech uses a stock length control arm. The stock length arms keep the tire too close to the fender well when turning. You really need decent gears for 315's too.
i have an offroad with 2inch spacers.. approx 4" of lift.. stock control arms (for now) and im running procomp 1023 16X8 inch rims with 4" of BS.. wrapped with nitto 315/75/R16's.. with my stock lift and my 2" spacers my axle pulled back about an inch .. so i rub on the iner fender liner at full lock full flex.. nothing too bad.. but i need to fix it.. if i hat the right bump and the right angle and the right speed i can hear the lugz on the tires cranking on the pinchweld on the fenders.. doesnt happend often at all.. all be going higher and new control arms..
