kinda odd i so this thread. other day while driving to work there was a car carrier alongside me hauling wrecks. all of a sudden i heard this loud bang/crash and there it was floating in mid air in slow motion the hood of a smashed car. everyone swerved to avoid it. but imagine if it went through someones windshield

Know how that feels - happened to me about 3 months ago on a 2-lane at about 65 going down a hill into a gentle curve (US 94 going into Florida, NY) when the lights went out. Bad feeling.
Dunno if your truck falls into the latch recall, but if it does, you may be in luck. Mine did and I called Chrylser and complained. They had sent me a notice about the cat recall, but not the latch (didn't own the truck when the recall was issued).
The secondary latch is supposed to catch if the hood is anthing like "down" - it doesn't need to be pushed to engage. When down enough to even look down, he springs are not supposed to hold it up and the secondary latch is supposed to engage. It is a safety issue, and Chrysler knows it. They paid for eveything.
Check you VIN against the recall - if it's included, you might avoid the pain in the wallet. Mine is a '96 RAM 1500 4WD.

Barn latches and hood pins on old F-250 let go one day on me going down the road at 60, completely sheared hood off and sent it like frisbee in the air, travelled at least 75 yrds away. Wouldnt of happened if I would have put the pins back in the pegs.........still haunts me to this day.....lol

I forgot to pop the clips in my hood pins on my third car (73 AMC Javelin) back in ... um ... 1979 maybe. Actually got about 3 miles from home when I noticed the hood starting to lift. Slammed on the brakes but it was too late ... WHAM! Didn't hurt the windshield but it curled up both rear corners of the hood. I also had to walk about 50 yards to retrieve my hinge springs. MAJOR D'oh! moment.

im doing about 70 on the highway and on my way to the city, its a lil bumpy like ride, anyways long story short one of the bumps popped the hood up and it was jugglin up and down im like oh snap, i pulled over right away and reshut it..!! i was like OH EM GEE!!1 "OMG"
