Default MOTOR CHANGE

Question: I'm in the process of installing a 1999 5.2 liter Durango engine in my 1995 Ram 4x4 1500. I'm having a problem separating the engine from the transmission, how many bolts are there attaching the two? I've taken out six bolts so far, but on the engine to be installed (1999 5.2) it looks like there's a bolt just to the lower right of the distributor. This bolt, if it's there would be between the two upper bolts securing the engine to the transmission. Thank You for any assistance.

In a nut shell, I guess the question is how many bolts attach the engine to the trans?

Default RE: MOTOR CHANGE

To remove your engine I will assume all acc. plumbing and electrical is disconnected and you have your intake and rad out.

There are 4x 9/16" bolts you access from above from back side of the trans
Below there are 2x 5/8 bolts you access by removing the oil filter and starter motor
There are 6x 1/2 bolts holding the motor mounts to the engine, 2 of them hold the motor/trans cross supports that have 2x 5/8 bolts going into trans.
With the flexplate/tc shields 4x (may have been 3) 7/16 bolts removed you can access the flexplate to tc bolts which there are 4x 9/16 bolts. Need to turn the crank bolt (32mm/1 1/4") to access all 4 tc bolts.

If you have all of these out, support the front of the trans with a jack. With the engine hoist lift the motor till the truck rises a bit. You will probably have to pry the bottom of the trans to engine where you accessed the flexpate to tc bolts and the other side by oil filter.
BE CAREFULL! Dowls are the only thing holding them together at this point and when you seperate the motor from trans either or both could drop in the middle a bit. Be sure your body/heads not under there

Hope this helps
