Default 2001 Ram 2005, need advice

I am looking at a 2001 2500 Lamarie Sport V8 mag. It is that Intense Blue color, including the while bumper.
I wanted to ask everyone, who has one, are these reliable trucks?
Has anyone had problems with this?
What are the common problems?
I have a 99 Dakota and the thing breaks all the time.

welcome to DF...

the rams are reliable as long as they are taken care of... neglect is never good. from a motor standpoint, you'll have the same issues in the ram, the good thing however is there are plenty of folks here to help iron out any issue you do have to help you get back on the road quickly.

common problems are the plenum leaking, IAT getting gunked up because of the leaky plenum (just needs cleaning) tracbar for the 4x4's. the best thing I could say would be to service the tranny and slap an oversized tranny cooler on it. I did this with mine and never had any major issues with it other than 2 sensors going bad.

I'd agree with Steve. If you do your maintenance, it's fine. I beat on mine, but change my fluids and wear parts. Anything made recently is reasonably reliable, but you still need to do the maintenance. You'll have problems with anything sooner or later.

You might get a problem with the CAD or plenum or something, but when you look at the rest of the platform, ie-proven engine and transmission (adjust the bands, keep it cool) you really haven't got to much to worry about. I like the solid front axle, but it brings other things to work on. It's not to bad, though.

Every manufacturer has it's weak points, but I can't complain about my Ram. Grab a service manual and a wrench and enjoy doing something for yourself.

I'd have to say, beating on my Dodge has not caused that much work.
