will a 96 rear end work on a 2001 ? a friend of mine just bought a 2001 ram 1500 quad cab sb and the rear end was locked up. he got it for $1500 and found a rear end on a 96 club cab sb for $50. what a deal ! i was thinking the 98 and up had a i pc alum drive shaft and the early years had a reg drive shaft with carrier bearing butt not sure.

 

He will lose the disc brakes he has right now. It would be more cost effective to find a used 2001 rear end or have the one he's got rebuilt with better and stronger components.
