Default This is probably an old question But?

I got a 2000 dodge Ram 4x4 and I'm taken great care of it. Problem I'm having is when I hit a bump (on the road) I get this shimmy or slight movement felling thru the steering wheel. I've changed out the steering shaft and that hasn't helped. Does anyone know if these things have any front end problems I should be looking at???

Thanks

welcome to DF...

could be the beginning of what we call the death wobble... 3 suggestions... 1) (easiest) is to get an alignment with the max caster that the shop can put into it. that will cure it 99% of the time. 2) get a sturdier tracbar... the stocker is junk and 3) swap out the control arm bushings for polyurethane ones. this will lock down your axle nicely. did this on 2 trucks and it worked awesome each time. it is a bitch of a job to do yourself. I did it 2x and swore I'd never do it again.... well now I have a 3rd truck that has the same front end setup so I guess I have another one to do...

ball joints, tie rod ends, track bar, steering box....seems that these Dodges are prone to premature front end wear.

steve00ram360 thanks for the great advice.. Now I have another question for you... Where is a good place to shop for this stuff? I do pretty much of my own maintance on my truck, but I shop at Autozone mostly, but that is for oil and plugs and stuff like that. So buying this other I'd like to go to a place that knows truck if you know what i mean.

Thanks again

Eric

tracbar http://www.thurenfabrication.com/stocktb.html

alignment can be done anywhere, just make sure the guy doing it knows to put in the maximum caster that he can.

the bushings, they are a bitch to put in... you would be better off if you can find someone with a press that you can use. they can be found at any 4x4 shop, they may have to order it. if they do then i'd go to summitracing.com, they are pretty quick to get things to you.

What brand bushings did you use? Looking to upgrade mine on a 2001 4X4 and not finding anything to my liking.

energy suspension i think is the only one available. it was one of the better upgrades to the suspension I did on my 2000... that and the tracbar combined made a huge difference...
