RE: alternator amps?
1500,2500,3500? V8?
Most are 136 Amp if I remember correctly. Search this forum for "build sheet" and you'll get a link to a chrysler site that will ask for your VIN. Fill out the form and email it to them, they should get back to you quickly with all the stuff that your truck came with

smaller ones? (welder-generator?)
Hank, I have swapped out the two differnt alternators
a few times without any problem. The one that's on the
motor right now is a 53027913, ans the spare in the
tool box is a 53008651. I don't even remember what
came stock on my truck.

Hank , I think you brought this up a few weeks ago. It piqued my
curiousity. The '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9V8's did come with a 150 amp
alternator from the factory. I'm guessing it had largely to do with the
electric fan that they also came with. I just picked one
up to see if it would work on my Dakota. The answer is, no for any vehicle
before 1998. Different
connectors than on my '95. I thought there had been a switch in terms of
connectors
at some point and it turns out that it was in '98 and up. The part number
for anyone that is curious is 56041394AA for this piece.

RE: alternator amps?
Company in Texas makes a 208 for the Ram CTD. I have one in my truck and so far it has performed flawless. Just remember to remind the guy that the diesels have an 8 grove pulley. I run two amps at just about 1300 watts RMS. Headlights on, AC blastin, fog lamps, etc. My voltage NEVER drops below 13.8. When my sub thumps, my volt gauge drops 1 tenth of a volt.
It's a very well built alternator. And the guy gets good money for it also. Just throwing it out there in case anyone was lookin for more power. Just make sure to increase the size of the charge wire. I went with 2 gauge.
Adios guys.

RE: alternator amps?
ive been wanting to put in a diesel alt 208 amp in my truck but like you said DD that you run a 8groove and i think we have 6 (or 7) groove pullys.. i figured if i get the one for the 5.9L 12V the mounting holes should be close to the same.. maybe some modification necessary.. and the nice thing is these style alts are considered 2 wire so they have internal rectifiers and the pcm regulates.
