Oil Galley plugs? 5.9L magnum
Hi guys finally getting around to puttin this 5.9L magnum together for my buddy. I've got the rotating assembly together but can't remember if I'm supposed to put a drive in plug in the front of the block at the end of the lifter oil galleys. I thought I remembered driving some out and the pioneer plug kit came with 2 19/32 plugs which I thought went there, but they won't pound in, it's like there just plain to big and I can't find a size that seems right. Also it looks like the cam retainer plate will block the passenger side and the top of the drivers side passage and let some oil dump down and onto the timing chain. so is there suppposed to be plugs in there or is the cam retaining plate supposed to block it? I just can't remember as it's been almost 2 months since I tore it apart. Also I got a mopar performance computer for it, a crane 704121 cam, mopar springs and retainers, headers, and I spent about 40 hours porting the heads so this thing should rip. I'm also gonna smooth out the throttle body and maybe cut .5" off the runners inside the intake, do you guys think that's a good idea or should I leave it alone? Also what does the crankshaft postion sensor mod do, can anyone give me more details on it? Thanks for the help, Brandon.
Brandon,
Lots of other threads on both the CPS Mod and intake modifications. Since you have a Mopar Performance PCM I would recommend holding off on the CPS Mod unless after you have got the motor running it seems like the timing is retarded. The CPS Mod will help that.
Cutting the intake runners and center divider will improve air flow and increase horsepower. Cutting the runners .5" won't make much difference. Most people cut them all the way down. You might see a little reduction in torque but you will see increased top end horsepower.
I'll have to leave the plug question to others as I can't help you there.

download the manual from the merry christmas thread... you can find a link in the dodge info thread tacked to the top of the forum... the manual should answer your questions.
cut the runners 1.5" down and it'll breath well past 5k. been there, done that and was very happy with the mod. while your in there, clean up the injector openings so the spray does not hit the side of the intake.

Steve,
In your previous post you mention cleaning up the injector openings. Exactly what work do you recommend? Havn't touched that area before as I have been leery of causing any type of fuel leak. I alreay had one fire under my hood and don't want another. Took way too long to get my truck running again.

O.k. we don't plan to run this thing over 5,200-5,300 so should I leave the runners a little longer for some more low end or jut cut them 1.5" and thanks I was planning on opening up the injector holes and I"ll leave the crank sensor for now then to. I'll download that manual and see if I can find anything on the plugs.
Does anyone know if those lifter galleys are supposed to be plugged with plugs or just the cam plate? Someone must of had one of these apart before? I really need to know guys, i'm a sitting duck till I find out. Thanks.
