Default 02 Sensor Question

The truck I have is a 97 with a 360. My previous truck was a 95 with a 360. I have a brand new Mopar O2 from the 95 which I never installed.

Since my plenum was sucking oil I wanted to change the pre-cat O2 to make sure I get the truck running right again. When I look up the part numbers for the 02 sensors for the 97 it is asking if it is the right or the left sensor. However, my 97 only has one pre-cat O2 in the same location as the 95. The two for the 97 if they are "right" or "left" have different p/n's. Neither of which match the 95 p/n.

Does anyone know why it is looking for a left or right when I only have the one pre-cat O2?

Does anyone know if and what the difference is between the 95 and 97 sensor? The only difference I know of between the trucks is the 95 had EGR and the 97 doesnt. The connectors are the same.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

I ran into the same issue on my 97 360 when my pre cat o2 was failing. THe computers called for a righ and left bank. For some reason some trucks had these and some did not. Mine, like yours did not. I told the parts store guy it was the one that went in the cat, just like the 96 and previous year models did, he sold me one of those, I installed it and haven't thought about it since. I say use it man.

I don't really have an answer for you, but the difference between the '95 to '97 would possibly be that the '95 is OBD I and the '97 is OBD II. I don't know if O2 sensors for the'95 will work in the '97. Hopefully someone else has an answer to that.

As to the left and right O2 sensors, I believe the heavy duty version of the Rams run some sort of dual exaust with two cats and thus 4 O2 sensors (a pre-cat and post cat for each side). I know when I keep looking that s*** up I get the same thing.

Hopefully this helps although I probably didn't answer your question.
