Default 518-727 conversion

my 518 (4x4) just quit the other day, i have been thinking about installing a 727 and was wondering if anyone else has done this yet. are there any major set backs, i'm assuming that the drive shafts will need lengthened/shortened and relocate the t-case shift lever. any specifics are appreciated such as required d-shaft length.

ok, i will try to simplify this, i am going to install a 727 in my 01 ram. i haven't had the opportunity to measure the difference between the original tranny/t-case and drive shafts and compare to a 727 equipped vehicle (pre 1990, i realize that many of you may not have been born while this transmission was still in use but it should bolt up to a 360/318 with out a problem). I was wondering if anyone else has done this already?

Look here: http://www.transmissioncenter.net/SwapInformation.htm

This details the reverse of what you want to do.
