Default Cat Rattling

So i finally got my heat shield off that i thought was making all the noise. well, it was just a very small amount of noise and the bulk of it is coming from my cat. it was replaces 2 years ago with a magnaflow high flow. now, i havent had any reduction in fuel mileage or power like i did when the stock one failed, but it rattles like craaazy. any idea if this can be fixed? or am i looking at another replacement.

I would call Magnaflow and ask them. Might be some kind of warranty on it.....

Yeah I thought I had the same prob. I heard rattling so figured it was the cat, had it replaced, but I still have the rattling so I don't know what it is. How did you determine it was the cat? How hard was getting the shield off?

I have a very unscientific way of telling. I just wack the cat with my hard really hard to see if it was rattleing. Make sure the exhaust is cold

Yea I read that you did that and thats what I did and I did hear a noise in there that sounded just like it. I don't know about it now. I used a temp gun and the input temp was about 50 degrees lower than the output which is about right (if I've learned anything).

it took me about 2.5 hours to get the heat shield off the engine block. i didnt have any cutting tools. all you have to do is take off one nut, then on the right side of the heat shield near the top theres a rivit. take a prybar and whack off that rivit, then with a little pulling it comes right now. my problem was i didnt know the rivit was there.

and yeah, i just whacked the cat with the preybar to find that was it. i actually took it to my exhaust guy this aft. the hanger after the cat, before the muffler, was touching the frame. that in turn loosened the heatshild off the cat. he replaced the hanger and welded the heatshild back onto the cat. the rattling is now gone!

and no warranty from magnaflow as i never bothered sending in the warranty card
