Will a PCM from a 99 work for a 2000? The engine, transmission and 4x4 are the same.

 

Some guys have talked about PCM swaps similar to this on here before, as far as I know as long as you're running the same motor and trans there shouldn't be a problem, as Dodge didn't change the makeup of performance of these motors for a long time. If I remember correctly someone on here did an engine swap and got a 5.9 PCM to work for a 5.2? or maybe i'm mistaken...anywho...try searching for archived topics on PCM swaps, but I don't believe the year should make a difference as long as the vitals are the same.

 

The PCM doesn't just control the engine. it also controls the transmission and reads input from a lot of different sensors. There is probably more that it controls also. As an example, for 2001 there were two different PCM's made. One for vehicles purchased before June 2000 and a different PCM for trucks built from that point forward. My truck has two O2 sensors. One in front of and one behind the catalytic converter. Some trucks have two in front of and 1 behind the converter and I do not think the wrong PCM would know what to do with the readings from 3 O2 sensors.

A 5.9 PCM can run a 5.2 and a 5.2 PCM can run a 5.9 as I have done the 5.2 on a 5.9. It runs much better and smoother with the correct PCM for the motor.

I would recommend getting the right PCM for the right motor for the right year.
