Isin't there a speed sensor somewhere near the motor, that's attached to a speedo cable type, setup?

Rear Speed Sensor Removal/Installation

1.Raise vehicle on hoist.

2. Clean sensor, cover, and sensor mounting area of axle housing (figs. 16 & 17). This is necessary to prevent dirt entry when sensor is removed from housing. Mopar brake cleaner or carb cleaner are equally acceptable for cleaning purposes.

3. Disconnect harness wires from sensor (fig 16).

4. Remove screw that secures brake cable, brake line, sensor cover, and sensor in axle housing (figs 16 & 17).

5. Remove sensor and cover.

6. Cover sensor opening in axle housing to prevent dirt entry.

7. Insert sensor in axle housing opening. Then position cover over sensor, and install cover and sensor attaching screw.

8. Connect harness wires to sensor and lower vehicle.





Those are the steps for the rear sensor, verbatim, from a 95' manual. If you have 4 wheel antilock, you will have sensors up front also. (each wheel).

No speed sensor in the diff of the 95, its in the tranny tailshaft

Thanks for that info and especially the picture, that is exactly what I was looking for. I figured since I could only located one part number for the vehicle speed sensor on wholesalemopar, that there was only one, and I wanted to verify. Thanks for the help, I will probably price the part at the local stealership then if it is a substantial differance I will be ordering from wholesalemopar.

Is there a possibility that my speedo gear might be busted? If it is how hard is that to replace, do I have to rip the rear of the tranny appart?

It turns out, from talking to the stealership, that there are two sensors for a 95. Just like the other years, it has one in the tranny and one in the rear diff. Now, since my ABS light is not on, they said only replace the one in the tranny, and that is what my research on here says also. Gonna get the part in bit

yeah but you said your speedo didnt work... points to the rear. unless you have a cable for your year.

Right. The stealership told me that since my ABS light isnt on, then the problem is most likely coming from the sensor on the tranny. If the sensor in the rear was messed up my ABS light would be coming on too. Thus, since there is no indiation of ABS issues (dash light) then the sensor on the tranny is the culprete. Also, there could be the possibility of the speedo gear in the tranny being broke. If that is the case, the sensor might not even be bad.

I believe the "sensor" on the tranny output shaft IS the gear assembly. Otherwise ... 95s would have three speed outputs (rear, VSS and gear). Changing the gear is how one compensates for tires on the older models ... that means that the gear output is what drives the speedo.

I'll have to call Dodge and let them know that their manual is wrong. Must be the "SPEED SENSOR" and all the instructions to remove it in the REAR AXLE, were just a misprint.

I'll have to mention that the section on the FRONT SPPED SENSORS must be wrong as well.......LOL.



No wonder the book is so thick, it has the wrong info.
