generic question
This is not about a 2 gen, but my friend has a chrysler (92 jeep w/ a straight six) that wont start. Battery's fine, all electrics power up, but when you try to start it, nothing. No clicks, churning, turning, just absolutly nothing. The starter is good, it's new, and I shorted it to ensure it was getting power. it sparked, burned my screwdriver, all that good stuff. the last thing I can imagine is something in the ignition-and my question is where to look. What general connections are common on all vehicles that may be going wrong between the ignition and starter? any help is appreciated.

What about the starter solenoid. If it's getting power when you turn the key it should at least click. I'd check that and if it checks out good then check the wiring to it.
I'm not positive but I think on the 4.0 6cyls the solenoid is mounted on the starter itself. I'm not 100% on that though.
Edit:
I happen to still have the digital version of my 99 Wrangler's FSM. It covers diagnostics for the starting system of the 4.0L. Here is the snipet of what you need I think:

If you need more than this I can figure out a way to send you the pdf file of the related section. Let me know.

On some vehicles the clutch switch goes to a relay that feeds the starter selnoid. they will arc up and not make contact after a while. So when you press on the clutch it closes the relay that allows power the close the starter selnoid. They are usually mounted on the passenger side fender. at least on a ford and nissian.
