Anyone see Mythbusters?
I saw that episode too....and I still disagree. I get better milage with the tailgate down, and I run my mileage with every tank. The only way I get better mileage with the tailgate up is when the cap is on. So I agree with my calculator in my glovebox and it says Mythbusters are WRONG!!! but to each his own I guess.

I was surprised they didn't do a cap, but I guess theres no myth about that, it should get better MPG. I used to have a tonneau cover on my old dakota and noticed a decent difference in MPG. I figure theyre just a little worse than hard covers because they are not fully taunt. The first episode they did on it covered all the bases, so on the second one they used data from the first test to reach they're conclusions. Plus they didnt want to drive another 600 miles or whatever it was they did.
I guess ill just get that K&N filter kit and exhaust ive been wanting....I can hear it now..."but honey, it will save on the gas if I get these"

The easiest way to gain MPG is to draft behind semi's

100% agree with you on that one jakebrake!!! Maybe we could just draft behind TANI's truck, It's got to be big enough!!!! On a side note, I drive semi's on the side so just be responsible when doing it. I've seen WAY to many people get to close to me. If I'd have to jam the brakes, by the time I'd see it they'd be in my bumper already.
The only time that I get better than average MPG is when I'm cruising down the free way at 65 with the cc on while on the flats, drafting behind big rigs, and absolutely still air otherwise.
yeah highways are great for gas mileage..
but if you look at the math and areo work behind the mytbusters stuff it really does work how they say it does. the cab creates the vortex thing and actually pushes the truck down onto the ground. (kinda like those giant aluminum wings ricers put on) but it works a ton better. yes it does add drag but removing it you lose grip on the road and your tires will not work as well creating more of a "slipping" effect.
it's physics and fluid flow... not rocket science.. though that is just physics, fluid flow, and gravity... anyway...

Is this a new Mythbusters episode for the 2006 Fall season
showing for the first time last week?
I have seen the previous Mythbusters episode shown last year
where they test Ford F150s on the interstate until they run out of gasoline,
and where they build themselves a 'water flume' powered by an electric trolling motor.

Then again, the Ricer crowd isn't very bright anyway.
