Default stupid dealership????

i bought a 99 ram QC 1500 4x4 last month.

problem with oil pressure warning at low idle and parking brake/ abs light coming on intermittently.

they fixed the abs problem with a new sensor and fixed broken wired, and now the fun begins....

so i have a problem with oil pressure at low idle ONLY WHEN TEMP AT 100. Made sure i mentioned this.

i take it in they scan it: bad oil pressure sensor, they change it, they say its done. So i take it home and on the way it warms up and there it is again when i stop at a red light. So i take it back and tell him AGAIN , that its still happening WHEN THE TRUCK IS WARMED UP TO 100. I even suggested that i thought that it could be a clogged oil pump input shaft screen. And told him thats its an apparently common problem.

They have had it for 2 days now, and they want to replace the engine!!!!

i asked them if they did what i suggested, from what ive read here:

drop the oil pan and clean the screen.

They said no, the service manager says that if that doesnt fix it, it will have been useless work. Oh by the way, they kept on talking about replacing the oil pump, so i asked fro about the 8th time, have they tried to drop the oil pan and clean the screen, they said no, and that a new engine would be needed..

They said at idle the oil pressure is at 6 psi.

They Dodge dealership is doign the warranty work for a Honda dealership who does the warranty work fro the place i bought the truck from....whew..

so now the Honda dealership is getting the truck to a different Dodge dealership because he knows them better.

gahhhhhh!!!!!!

normally i do all of my own work, sold my 99 jeep tj to get this truck and i did lots of work to the jeep.

I guess my theory on never using the dealership is still valid, i only went there because i got a warranty and im not going to put up with a new (to me) broken truck.

OMG!!!!

ouch sorry for your pain...

but really a new engine really doesn't sound like the problem... seems more in the lines of where you were looking. an engine wouldn't need to be replaced for low oil pressure.. at worst the oil pump would need to be replaced.

Strange question, are you running 20-50w oil? If you are I know that it can play tricks on your pressure sensor. The sensor is only engineered for 10w-30 I had the same issue with my ram and I did all the stuff you are going through now. I traced it back to the oil viscosity. I fixed the problem with changing my oil to full synthetic 10w-30 and I haven't had any issues since. I am also a fim believer in driving it like you stole it. Dealerships aren't all stupid but that one sounds like it.

Just my opinion, but it is a 99 truck. You have a warranty. No doubt no matter what work they do they will charge you the same. I might just be cheap but I woulden't argu with them putting in a new engine if it is going to cost me the same.

agreed. if its warrantied and its a 99 model...it prolly has some miles on it...go ahead and get a new engine if they will charge you the same amount regaurdless.
