My 98 would cut out on me as I was driving. It did it only when the engine was warm. Turned out to be the Crankshaft Position sensor.
Can't say that was typical tho, because my mechanic couldn't believe it started at all!
Ran like a bear first thing in the morning! Stalled every time I let off the gas in the afternoon.

but wouldnt that set off a check engine light?

my 99 is doing the same thing, and im thinking its the fuel pump. im gonna mount a fuel pressure gauge on the hood, and drive it around till it dies again. if i see the pressure dropping, ill know if its the fuel pump assembly or not. it also idles slightly higher than normal, and i did the plenum fix about 8 months ago.
