and the oil cap[:@] Nothing got inside so thats good...The inside of the cap jst busted up into a bunch of peice and I couldnt unscrew the cap. So I had to pop off the cover that twist and then get the peice that screws into the valve cover off. I got some vice grips and got it out. Now I get to drive an hour to buy a new one[:@]

Hope you closed with hole with duct tape or something to prevent contaminants from getting into the crankcase.

Was the symptom of this just the yellow oil cap top clicking and spinning without coming of the valve cover?
I am in the middle of an oil change on my 96 1500 and I can't get the cap off. It just clicks and spins like its trying to grab something.
How do I get it off cleanly without putting a bunch of plastic bits into the engine?

Thanks

Never mind, I decided to do what habeba86did and pop off the outer cap and use vise grips to loosen and remove the inner cap from the valve cover. I should have figure something wasup during the last oil change when the cap started to click. So for those of you with a clicking oil fill cap, replace it, it's less ten bucks at the parts store.
