There are a couple of chips that piggyback the PCM (like Jet and I beleive hypertech had one). They might work for a bit but the PCM will just learn it's way around the chip and adjust for it, so any performance gain will probably be short lived.I know a guy who has one and says his truck seems to idle and run a little smoother but hasn't noticed any kind of performance benefit. As mentioned, you'd probably want to try and pick up a Mopar Performance PCM. They don't make them anymore so you'll have to keep an eye out for them on places like ebay.

I have a 96 and run a Mopar Performance PCM in it. Excellent improvement in performance in my opinion. Having to use 93 octane only down side. If you watch the forums and eBay you can pick one up fairly cheep. I think I gave $150 for mine.

Those of you with the 5.2 and the superchip, how much HP did you gain and could you tell a good difference? I'm asking for my dad because he has a lifted 98 work truck that he wants more power out of. I have a superchip on my 06 hemi ram and love it but are they that good for the 98's too?

ive got a 98 5.2 with a superchip...there is a power diffrence i put in in and took it out a cupple times thow to notice, its not that big of a diffrence thow now i run it on the 89 octane setting now there is a bit more diff on the higher octanes...once i do more mods to the engen im hoping the superchip combined with the outher mods will yeld a biger diffrence

I noticed a difference in the power running my Superchips also. It's not a ton of extra power, but when I set the truck back to stock programming do I ever miss that little extra power. I was going to run stock programming for the winter (really don't need any extra power for spinning tire in the snow), but I just couldn't do it.
